{"id":13394,"date":"2024-08-30T09:33:13","date_gmt":"2024-08-30T09:33:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lever.gr\/epitychis-oloklirosi-seminarion-ergoy-life-prowhibit\/"},"modified":"2025-06-23T22:09:50","modified_gmt":"2025-06-23T22:09:50","slug":"epitychis-oloklirosi-seminarion-ergoy-life-prowhibit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lever.gr\/en\/epitychis-oloklirosi-seminarion-ergoy-life-prowhibit\/","title":{"rendered":"Successful Completion of LIFE PROWhIBIT Project Seminars"},"content":{"rendered":"\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"13394\" class=\"elementor elementor-13394 elementor-10009\" data-elementor-post-type=\"post\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-ea7c639 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"ea7c639\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-4d146123\" data-id=\"4d146123\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4e4574ac elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4e4574ac\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The General Directorate of Environmental Inspectors and Auditors of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, as the coordinator of the \u201cLIFE PROWhIBIT\u201d project (Preventing Waste Environmental Crime through \u201cSmart\u201d Inspections), successfully organized a series of three seminars in Athens and Thessaloniki, focusing on the prevention, detection, and deterrence of Waste Environmental Crime (WEC).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With these specialized seminars, the LIFE PROWhIBIT project completed a significant set of actions centered on the training and education of environmental inspectors as well as stakeholders and professionals involved in the prevention and response to WEC.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Co-funded by the LIFE Programme of the European Commission, the project is implemented in collaboration with the Green Fund and the European Union Network for the Implementation and Enforcement of Environmental Law (IMPEL). Its aim is to enhance the effectiveness of inspections through the use of new technologies and to raise awareness among authorities regarding legislation and best practices for combating WEC.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The seminars were held in two rounds:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first round from June 17 to 22 (Seminars A &amp; B)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The second round from July 9 to 12 (Seminar C)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul><div><br><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in Athens and Thessaloniki, covering a wide range of topics\u2014from legislation and the national strategy on WEC, to best practices and the role of NGOs and environmental networks in tackling this phenomenon. Participants received valuable knowledge and tools, with a focus on innovative methods and modern inspection tools. The seminars were accessible in person and online via Zoom and Facebook.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ms. Sofia Eleftheriadou, Deputy General Director of the Ministry\u2019s Inspectorate, opened the first seminar (A) by introducing the project\u2019s goals and stressing the importance of environmental protection and public health.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ms. Eleni Glypti, Scientific Coordinator of the LIFE PROWhIBIT project and Head of the Environmental Inspection Department for Southern Greece, outlined the project&#8217;s key actions and its contribution to the national strategy against WEC. Special emphasis was placed on legislation, with analyses by experienced legal experts and inspectors who presented the European and national legal frameworks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The second seminar (B) focused on case studies related to the application of criminal law in environmental protection, as well as collaboration with environmental networks and NGOs. These sessions highlighted the critical role such organizations play in fighting WEC. Representatives from various organizations presented best practices and suggestions to improve waste traceability and management.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The third seminar (C) centered on specialized skills and tools for combating WEC. Ms. Eleftheriadou welcomed participants and outlined the seminar\u2019s objectives. Ms. Glypti presented the project and summarized the key points from the previous two seminars.
