The event, held at the Ioannina City Hall, brought together local stakeholders and citizens to discuss the Climate Pact within the framework of its co-creation and submission by the Municipality, as part of their participation in the European Mission of 100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities of the EU by 2030.<\/span><\/p>

The event focused on <\/span>four main thematic areas<\/b>:<\/span><\/p>

  • Urban planning and energy upgrading of buildings,<\/span><\/li>
  • Urban design and green spaces,<\/span><\/li>
  • Transport and sustainable mobility,<\/span><\/li>
  • Circular economy.<\/span><\/li>
  • \u00a0<\/span><\/li><\/ul>

    For each theme, proposed actions were presented and discussed by the scientific and technical supporters involved in creating the city\u2019s Climate Pact, as a first step toward the city becoming climate-neutral by 2030.<\/span><\/p>

    Lever \u2013 Development Consultants S.A. actively supports the Municipality of Ioannina in shaping the Climate Pact, specifically in the fields of urban planning and land use, green infrastructure and nature-based solutions, waste and circular economy, and the formulation of a financing plan for the actions. Representatives include Environmental Engineer PhD Christiana Polyzou from the European Projects Department and Spatial Planner \u2013 Urban Designer MSc Marianna Patelida from the Technical Consulting Department.<\/span><\/p>

    It is noted that in this specific mission (EU Mission: Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities), following application and evaluation, 100 European cities and 12 partners were selected with the goals:<\/span><\/p>

    • To become climate-neutral by 2030, ahead of the EU target of 2050, and<\/span><\/li>
    • To act as hubs of experimentation and innovation so that all European cities can follow their example by 2050.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>

      The city of Ioannina is one of six Greek cities selected. Participating cities are currently called to draft and submit the Climate Pact to begin implementing, based on a specific plan, actions to reduce their carbon footprint. The ultimate goal is to achieve climate neutrality by 2030, meaning their total carbon footprint\u2014including greenhouse gas emissions and absorptions in the atmosphere\u2014will be zero by 2030<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
