The company \u201cLever \u2013 Development Consultants S.A.\u201d, a member of the \u201cSamaras & Associates\u201d group, in collaboration with the Municipality of Aigialeia, supports the initiative to upgrade and redesign schoolyards, with the aim of improving the daily lives of children and young people and creating modern, safe and inclusive school infrastructure.<\/strong><\/p>

The action is part of the Municipality\u2019s broader planning for school environments that simultaneously function as active public spaces for the neighborhood and the local community, with an emphasis on the systematic maintenance and substantial upgrade of the yard spaces.<\/p>

A key element of the design are the participatory design workshops held by Lever on February 3 and 4, 2026 at the 1st Primary School of Aigio, the Primary School of Avithos and the Primary School of Akrata. Students, teachers, parents, as well as organizations associated with the school community participated in the process, so that the proposals fully respond to the real uses and expectations of those who experience the space daily.<\/p>

The participatory design workshops reinforce an essentially democratic approach, where citizens participate in the design of public space and in decisions concerning daily life. Through this method, the real co-formation of the space by its users is sought, creating multiple benefits for the school community but also for the wider environment of the neighborhood. Students re-approach the yard based on their needs and submit proposals that respond to the functionality of the space, while teachers and parents actively contribute to the creation of a space that is addressed not only to the school, but also to the community.<\/p>

The final result is expected to lead to the creation of sustainable and functional yards with basic guidelines:<\/p>

  • enhancing accessibility for all categories of students,<\/li>
  • improving comfort and appropriation of the space with seating areas, shading, strengthening plantings and the right choice of paving materials,<\/li>
  • expanding the use of the yard during the afternoon hours by the neighborhood, strengthening its role as a reference point for the community,<\/li>
  • using durable and friendly materials, with low maintenance requirements and high durability.<\/li><\/ul>
