European Week of Regions and Cities 2024

Σημαίες Ε.Ε.

In October, the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (EMTH) took an important step in strengthening its presence in European institutional bodies by participating in the European Week of Regions and Cities in Brussels. This premier annual EU event brings together regions from across Europe to discuss and highlight their development priorities. EMTH was present with the aim of presenting its initiatives and strengthening relationships with other European entities.

With the support of “Lever – Development Consultants S.A.”, a member of the Samaras & Partners Group, which provides scientific and technical support to the Regional Development Fund of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace and manages the Region’s office in Brussels, the Region had the opportunity to organize an event hosted in the Event Hall of the Permanent Representation of Greece to the EU.

EMTH’s participation in the European Week of Regions is part of a broader strategic plan to cultivate relationships with European institutions and secure funding for development projects. The keynote speaker at the event, Governor Mr. Christodoulos Topsidis, emphasized the need for synergies with the EU, pointing out that the successful utilization of European funds is crucial for the region’s economic and social progress.

During the event, discussions focused on funding opportunities for infrastructure and social development projects, as well as support for technological innovation in the region. Additionally, the importance of the region’s presence in Brussels was highlighted, aiming for continuous monitoring of developments in European policy and shaping a strong voice in European affairs.

The EMTH office in Brussels is a key tool for representing the Region in European institutional bodies. It acts as a liaison between the Region and the European Union, providing information on European programs, funding opportunities, and policies directly affecting Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. Through this office, the Region actively participates in conferences, seminars, and exchanges of best practices with other European Regions.

It is worth noting that the office also supports local authorities and municipalities by offering them opportunities to stay informed about European programs and legislative developments. In this way, the Region ensures a dynamic presence on the European stage, strengthening efforts for regional development.

EMTH’s participation in the 2024 European Week of Regions and Cities marked a decisive step in enhancing cooperation with European bodies and securing funding for the Region. Strengthening the Brussels office and its active involvement in European discussions guarantees EMTH’s access to European development programs, opening the way for new possibilities and opportunities that will contribute to the economic and social prosperity of the area.

Enhancing this presence allows the Region to claim a larger share of European resources, while simultaneously offering the citizens of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace more opportunities for growth and progress.
