The Climate Neutrality Action Plan of the Municipality of Pella

Climate change, due to its impacts on the natural environment, ecosystems, and human societies, is emerging as one of the greatest challenges of our time. Cities are at the forefront of these impacts, as although they occupy only 4% of the EU’s land area, they consume more than 65% of global energy and are responsible for over 70% of global CO₂ emissions.

Through the European Green Deal, the European Union has set the goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions (climate neutrality) for all European cities by 2050. In this context, the Municipality of Pella, recognizing the significant role local governments can play in mitigating climate change, has taken the initiative to accelerate its path toward climate neutrality. In collaboration with the company **”Lever – Development Consultants S.A.”**, a member of the **”Samaras & Partners Group”**, the **Climate Neutrality Action Plan** of the Municipality of Pella has been developed with a target year of **2030**—a comprehensive roadmap of actions, projects, and interventions aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The directions and actions proposed in the Climate Action Plan include energy savings in the built environment, promotion of green energy and renewable energy sources (RES), enhancement of sustainable urban mobility and transportation, bioclimatic urban design, waste reduction, and promotion of the circular economy, along with parallel actions for digital transformation.

The Climate Plan also includes an **Investment Plan** with guidelines for activating the Action Plan, encouraging stakeholder participation at the local level, and adopting an integrated approach to financing sustainable projects, with a focus on key priority sectors.
