“Lever – Development Consultants S.A.,” a member of the “Samaras & Partners” Group, in collaboration with the competent services of the Municipality of Ilion, has completed the preparation of the Urban Accessibility Plan for the Municipality’s jurisdiction area.
This specific plan defines the Municipality’s sidewalk network, which must be upgraded and aligned with accessibility standards as dictated by the approved national and European directives.
The highlighting of the routes is based on the structured methodology developed by “Lever – Development Consultants S.A.,” which initially involves tracing important points of interest (sports facilities, public buildings & services, cultural sites, etc.) and the designated shelter and encampment areas within the study area, followed by the optimal connection of these points using algorithmic models within a GIS environment that considers both functional and geometric network characteristics as well as the population.
In the case of the Municipality of Ilion, the proposed accessibility network includes the upgrade of approximately 24 km of sidewalks. The interventions concern extending their width, upgrading the surface quality, installing tactile paving for the visually impaired, upgrading and installing new ramps and crossings, as well as relocating problematic urban furniture elements.
The network is also connected with the existing redevelopment program of the Municipality of Ilion to achieve the necessary continuity in design. Beyond sidewalks, interventions also concern the entrance and interiors of shelter and encampment areas, as well as entrances to public buildings.

It is noted that, besides the shelter and encampment areas, the proposed final accessibility network serves a series of points of interest such as:
- Public Buildings and Services (Town Hall, Police Department, Justice Court, Primary Education Office, Secondary Education Office, Children’s Creative Activity Center, Ilion Citizen Service Center, OTE telecom, Ilion Land Registry, Child Development Centers, Banks, etc.),
- Places of Worship (Evangelistria, Saint Nikolaos, Saint Paraskevi, Saint Fanourios, Saints Theodoroi) and Cultural Sites (Melina Merkouri Cultural Center, Folklore Museum),
- Welfare Units (Elderly Care Centers, Nurseries, Municipal Clinics), Health Units (diagnostic centers, health center), Educational Institutions (Kindergartens, Primary Schools, Middle and High Schools),
- as well as a significant number of commercial shops and dining establishments.
