The Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (S.E.A.C.P.) was successfully completed on behalf of the Municipality of Acharnes, Attica, by the company “Lever Development Consultants S.A.”, a member of the “Samaras & Associates” group. The S.E.A.C.P. is part of the Covenant of Mayors, the main European initiative in which local and regional authorities from all over the world now participate and voluntarily commit to increasing energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources in their areas.
Within the framework of the S.E.A.C.P., the current situation was analyzed, taking into account the geographical, demographic, environmental and economic characteristics of the Municipality. Subsequently, all the necessary emissions and consumption inventory data were collected: data from municipal buildings, the municipal vehicle fleet, municipal lighting, equipment and facilities, private homes, transport and recycling, both for the reference year (2017) and for subsequent years. Using special factors, they were converted into equivalent CO2 emissions, while at the same time data were collected for the Municipality’s civil protection plans, green space planning, flood management plans, etc. By utilizing these data and information, Lever proceeded together with the Municipality and in particular with the Planning, Organization & Informatics Department, to draft the Action Plan with a view to determining the most economically and technically sound actions that were deemed necessary to achieve the goal.
The S.D.A.E.K. follows a holistic approach, adapted to the vision of the Municipality of Acharnes for safety and care for its citizens and the environment, with the ultimate goal of reducing CO2 emissions by at least 40% by 2030 and strengthening its resilience by adapting to the phenomena of climate change. The result of the above is a unified plan that on the one hand explains the necessity of the measures and on the other hand leads through specific steps to a safe, sustainable city and, moreover, to green, affordable energy for all.
