“Lever – Development Consultants S.A.,” a member of the “Samaras & Partners Group,” organized the local working meeting within the framework of the LIFE SIRIUS project.
As part of the project implementation, on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, the Local Working Table meeting titled “Air Quality Planning in Cities: The Local Experience” was successfully held in the “Manolis Anagnostakis” hall of the Thessaloniki City Hall.
The Local Working Table was attended by, among others, officials from the Municipality of Thessaloniki and the project partner team from Greece. The meeting was opened with greetings by the Deputy Mayor of Environment, Mr. Erotokritos Theotokatos, and the Deputy Mayor of E-Government and Head of Resilience of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, Mr. Michail Kouppkas.
Ms. Christiana Polyzou, Environmental Engineer PhD from the European Projects Department of “Lever – Development Consultants S.A.,” representing Lever, presented the “Review of Air Quality Legislation and Decision-Making Policies in the City of Thessaloniki” and, with data provided by the Municipality’s project team, the “Tools Used for Air Quality Monitoring in the City of Thessaloniki.”
“Lever – Development Consultants S.A.,” a member of the “Samaras & Partners Group,” is the Technical Advisor to the Municipality of Thessaloniki and will contribute to the “Evaluation of the decision-making framework and proposal of alternative scenarios for air quality for the city of Thessaloniki, as well as support and management actions for the project.”
The Municipality of Thessaloniki, in cooperation with partners from Greece, Italy, and Cyprus, is implementing the project “System for Integrated EnviRonmental Information in Urban areaS – LIFE SIRIUS.” The project is co-funded by the European LIFE Program 2021–2027 and its beneficiaries, with a total budget of €1,192,729, a duration of 36 months, and a start year of 2022.

The project’s objective is to improve environmental governance in the planning and management of air quality in urban areas by using a holistic environmental approach through enhancing the knowledge and capabilities of the responsible authorities.
Apart from the Municipality of Thessaloniki, the project partnership includes from Greece:
- Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (as Lead Partner) and AXON ENVIRO-GROUP Ltd (AXON)
- From Italy:
Regional Environmental Protection Agency of Lazio Region (ARPA Lazio) and the National Research Council of Italy (CNR-ISAC)
- From Cyprus:
The Department of Labour Inspection (DLI) of the Ministry of Labour, Welfare and Social Insurance of Cyprus and The Cyprus Institute (CyI) – Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre (CARE-C).
