As part of the Municipality of Kalamata’s participation in the European Mission of 100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities of the EU by 2030, the process of drafting the Climate Pact is progressing dynamically. The municipality requested the contribution of Lever – Development Consultants S.A. to help formulate proposals related to digital transformation.
The progress of this process is based on the positive evaluations from the first phase of the “Mission Kalamata.” Specifically, a series of working meetings took place at the Kalamata City Hall in April 2023, attended by Mayor Mr. Thanasis Vasilopoulos, members of the steering committee, working groups and partners of “Mission Kalamata,” municipal officials, as well as EU experts concerning the European Mission of 100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities of the EU by 2030.
In the next stage, the proposals from the Municipality of Kalamata were presented, which will be incorporated into the draft Climate Pact aimed at achieving Climate Neutrality, during an open event. This event was held at the Kalamata Municipal Cultural Center in a climate of dialogue and with reference to actions for informing and raising awareness among citizens.
The presentations and statements were made by those responsible for various sectors (energy, buildings, mobility, transport, built environment, waste, circular economy, digital transformation), external collaborators, and members of the working groups. The goal was to initiate a new cycle of consultation based on already developed and positively evaluated proposals.
In the field of digital transformation, specifically, EY, in collaboration with the Digital Transformation & Smart City Technology Department of Lever – Development Consultants S.A. of the Samaras & Partners Group, presented data and actions from the digital transformation study they jointly implemented, thanks to excellent cooperation with Mayor Athanasios Vasilopoulos and Deputy Mayor Nikolaos Basakidis. From the side of Lever – Development Consultants S.A., the project team includes Dimitra Krava, Martina Georgiou, and Aliki Christou (Digital Transformation & Smart City Technology Department).
It is worth noting that the digital strategy of the Municipality of Kalamata emphasizes the importance of the “dual” transition — green and digital — through the application of ICT and sustainable practices for the optimal management and functionality of the urban environment. The proposed actions in the study will utilize all the municipality’s unique characteristics, available resources, and locally produced data, resulting in more efficien
